Andrea Curry lives in NYC and has been teaching yoga for over 20 years. She truly enjoys teaching private yoga in people’s homes and has been doing so since moving to NYC in 2010. It is a privilege to hold space for people and to be a regular presence in their household. Andrea's calm and grounding presence brings people right to the present moment, encouraging them to feel deeply and to express what wants to be said. Andrea’s classes include an intense workout, detoxing sequences, grounding and strengthening postures, calming postures, breathing exercises, meditation, essential oil scalp massages, dietary advice, homework, and whatever is needed that day. The result is always transformative and you will certainly feel better after a class with Andrea.

Andrea first fell in love with yoga and the union of breath, movement and meditation while in college at the University of Portland. In 2000, she joined the Peace Corps and for two years, lived on the tiny island of Yap, in Micronesia, teaching English and yoga to children and adults in her village.

From Micronesia she lived in Japan, teaching English and studying yoga and meditation in temples throughout Kansai. Her thirst for yogic study brought her to Thailand, where she completed an extensive teacher training with David Goulet and Marina Hallerman both of whom studied with Swami Gitananda, Dr. Ganapathy and Om Prakash. The experience expanded her knowledge of chakras, asana, pranayama, meditation, chanting, and the eight limbs of yoga, Astanga. Following the course, she and Christina ran the yoga center and have been teaching together ever since. In 2005 she opened a dive shop and yoga business in Micronesia.  Also a certified dive instructor, she taught yoga classes to her divers. The breath work and meditation aspect of yoga is immensely helpful in improving diving skills.

In 2007 she signed on as the resident yoga teacher managing the yoga program at COMO Shambhala Retreat, Parrot Cay Resort, in Turks and Caicos for 3 years.

After her first RYT 350 teacher training she’s since done teacher trainings with Ana Forrest, Seane Corn, Noah Maze, and Jeannie O’Neill.

Now living and teaching in NYC and as a mother of two beautiful boys, finding time to focus on herself is more challenging, but more necessary, than ever. It is her true desire to show up for family, students, and life from a place that is open, grounded and present. Daily practice is absolutely a means to this goal and she is passionate about helping others cultivate and refine their own daily practice. Through gentle and informative hands on instruction, Andrea teaches the tools to stay healthy, grounded and balanced. Her teaching style draws inspiration from Astanga, Vinyasa, Anusara, Iyengar and Forrest yoga traditions and continues to be inspired by Seane Corn, Erich Schiffmann, David Swenson, Nikki Costello, Abbie Galvin, Elena Brower and Noah Maze.

Currently Andrea lives with her husband and 2 boys in NYC. She teaches private and small group classes and travels the world teaching yoga retreats with her sister Christina.
